STOP SNOWING FOR THE LOVE OF PETE! See the file to your left ("WWA #1") for advance notice of the writing assignment due Friday. Homework - THE SAME THING EVERY DAY THIS WEEK! With a partner, rehearse your speech. NO looking at the text, just give a copy to someone else and let them give you a word or phrase if you get stuck. Do it as many times as you can, so that you have it down. Minimum 2x per night, and that's if you're close to 100% accuracy. Homework 1/21/15 - Write your speech out by hand. This *will* help you remember it!!! Homework 1/20/15 - Record your speech on your phone or other device. Listen to it, pausing occasionally to test whether or not you know the next line. Repeat, pausing for longer and more frequent intervals. Homework 1/13/15 - "Chop" your speech. Cut it up, keeping one sentence on each piece of paper. Directions to the left. Homework 1/7/15 -1/9/15 - Finish your rough draft. Also, don't forget to tweet! Also, don't forget to bring your completed Self-Eval in on Tuesday, and every day thereafter until we conference! Homework 1/6/15 - Using the Research Worksheet, log all of your sources and their main points. Following that, start writing your sub-points and figuring out how your research supports those points. Digital copy available to the left. Homework 12/19/14 - Research research research. Find as much as you can that you think you MIGHT use, and keep it all logged in Easy Bib. Make sure you bring some sources to class every day to practice note-taking. By the time you return from vacation, you should have all the "ingredients" you'll need to arrange the speech. Homework 12/17/14 - Rewrite your proposals according to the feedback you got today. Bring them in typed, double spaced and ready to be inspected :) Homework 12/12/14 - Using the proposal guide, write a brief description of your speech topic, angle and argument. Homework 12/10/14 - Listen to/watch two speeches off the "Great Speeches" Handout and complete the worksheet. If you lost/didn't get the handout it's posted to the left. Homework 12/9/14 - Your reflection papers & films are due tomorrow! Homework 12/3/14 - Today you received your Reflection Paper Guide, make sure you review it and keep the deadline in mind. Both the film and the paper are due Dec. 10. Homework 12/2/14 - Lots to do this week! If you have a busy night, manage your time as needed. By Friday you should: -Finish the play -Turn in your poetry rewrite (if applicable) Tonight: -write a vocab story (or series of sentences) using today's list and the list from two weeks ago. If you are missing the 11/17 list, it's posted to the left. Homework 11/21/14 - Re-read Act III sc. ii and translate the lines between the characters you chose. Assignment specifics posted to the left. Homework 11/19/14 - Read Act III sc. i and take 'actor's notes' in your copy of the text. That means you will jot down notes next to lines to tell an actor: -How the character feels -When the character's feelings/moods shift -How the other characters are reacting to a character -What the character is doing Homework 11/18/14 - Create a script for an actor tomorrow based on the lines you were assigned in class. Each line should be translated into "modern" English as best you can. Homework 11/14/15 - Work on your film projects & finish reading Act I sc. i if you haven't already. Homework 11/13/14 - Study for your quiz! Also, don't forget to Tweet if you haven't yet this week. Homework 11/12/14 - Complete the "translation" worksheet (2 sided!) It should allow you to understand the gist of Helena and Hermia's conversation in Act I. If you do not have your text yet GET IT. Homework 11/7/14 - Get started on your film projects by: - Making sure you have a Google Doc shared with everyone for brainstorming and planning - Assigning one person the "Stage Manager" role to keep everyone organized and on schedule - Starting to gather props and costumes, or at least brainstorming what kind of things you'll need - Making sure you LOOK at the rubric (also posted to the left) so you know what's expected Homework 11/6/14 - Study for your quiz. The reading is fair game; be ready to answer questions about Elizabethan theater and such. Also still on your radar: - Getting a copy of the text - Shakespeare film project - setting up a google group and getting organized Homework 11/5/14 - Make sure you have read up to page 13 in your "Intro to Shakespeare" packet and completed the reading questions. If you didn't finish them in class, turn them in tomorrow. Also on your radar: -Quiz Friday (reading is fair game) -Shakespeare film project - group members needed by Friday -Getting a copy of Midsummer Night's Dream -Tweet tweet Homework 11/3/14 - Write a composition using all the new vocabulary words. (Can be a creative piece or just a series of sentences, up to you). Also, please buy a copy of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" ASAP. You will need it by the end of next week. I'm using the "New Cambridge Shakespeare" version edited by R.A. Foakes, but you aren't required to get that one if you can't find it/don't want it/etc. Homework 10/31/14 - Papers! Papers! Paaaappppeeerrrrssss! Also, your self evaluations are due by 11/4. Also, please buy a copy of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" ASAP. You will need it by the end of next week. Tonight, finish the questions for Genesis 16-22 if you didn't in class. We will need to be through Deuteronomy and the accompanying poetry by Friday, so plan accordingly. Your final essay for the term is a an explication on one of the poems from your bible packet. If you want a CHALLENGE, complete the comparison paper (don't do that unless you ask me about it!) Homework 10/24/14 - Read through Chap. 22 in Genesis (up to page 28 in your packet). Homework 10/23/14 - Study for your quiz! Homework 10/22/14 - Choose one of the five poems paired with Gen. 1-9 in your packets. Using the guide if needed, explicate the poem in about 1 page (no more than 2 pages). If you choose one of the poems we've already discussed, you had better do an EXCELLENT job of it :) Homework 10/21/14 - Write a poem in response to Genesis 1-5. It can be specifically related, indirectly related/inspired by, refer to it, quote it, etc. Any form is fine. The best way to learn how to write poetry is to read it! Browse a few before you write... Homework 10/17/14 - Read Genesis 1-5 (up to page 11 in packet) and answer the questions. Homework 10/15/14 - Congrats! Your midterm papers are done! Your homework tonight is to choose 15 literary terms from the handout in class and demonstrate that you understand them IN CONTEXT. That means you are NOT writing definitions, you are either writing a creative piece that uses each of the 15 you chose OR choosing quotes/examples from literature. e.g. - "Homework is as annoying as a mosquito" might be your example of a simile. Or you could find one, and quote it, from TFA. Homework 10/8/14 - Paper paper paper!!! Due Friday by 4 pm via Turnitin. Homework 10/7/14 - Write and print out your thesis statement and outline. Use the template above if you'd like to help organize your work. Homework 10/2/14 - Read through chap. 19 in TFA and study for your quiz tomorrow. Continue working on your notes in the "guide." Homework 10/1/14 - Read through chap. 17 in TFA and don't forget to tweet! Continue working on your notes in the "guide" - the more you work now, the easier your paper will be to write! Homework 9/30/14 - Read through chapter 15 and get your notes ready to be checked on Weds. They do not have to be 100% complete, but they should be seriously underway. The better your notes the easier it will be to write your papers next week! Homework 9/26/14- Read through Chap. 13 in TFA. You received your "guide to the novel" in class today; please fill that out as you read. I will be checking it one day next week to see how you're doing. We'll finish the book next week; plan accordingly! For those who haven't yet this week - tweet!! Homework 9/23/14- Read through chapter 9 in TFA. (That means ALL of chapter 9, not "up to" chapter 9). Homework 9/18/14 - By next week's first class you should be read through chapter 6 in TFA and ready for the vocabulary quiz. Homework 9/17/14 - Read Chapters 1 & 2 of Things Fall Apart AND Tweet @littychurtweets about your independent reading book! Homework 9/16/14 - Write for 30 minutes in response to the following question: What are your responsibilities as a citizen? Do you have any? Do you have a responsibility to other individuals? Why or why not? Homework 9/11/14 - Tweet of the week! Homework 9/9/14 - Draft a thesis statement for a comparative paper about Marquez's stories. Don't start collecting evidence from the text yet, because we will be workshopping the thesis statements next class. Homework 9/5/14 - Read Marquez stories "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" and "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World". On Monday you will be crafting thesis statements based on those stories.
